After the National Examination Board (NEB) published the plus two results. Now, there is a BIG question for students what to study in bachelor. Choosing the right program is very difficult especially in Information Technology as there are many similar programs offered by different universities.

BE, BIT, BCA, BSc. CSIT, BIM, and BE IT Programs
1. Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT)
Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is four years (8 semesters) program started by the Purbanchal University in 2001. This is one of the best IT programs which focuses on both hardware and software aspects of the computer subject. Courses include programming, system design, Computer Network, Database Management System, AI, Web Technologies, etc.
This program gives students a well-rounded knowledge of IT fundamentals, programming, Computer Networks, and telecommunications, etc.
Eligibility, Cost, and Scholarship
- Must have passed in at least the second division from plus two science streams. Basic mathematics is compulsory for management students.
- 2-6 lakhs for Nepali universities and above 10 lakhs for international universities. Students can get a scholarship according to the semester performance and entrance marks.
2. Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA)
BCA is a software application-oriented four years program affiliated to Purbanchal and Pokhara university. In 2019, Tribhuvan University also started this program. Students from Management and Science with a minimum of 45% marks will be eligible to join this program.
After completion of this course, the student can study MCA, MSc. IT. MBA for a further degree. The key features of BCA are this program is more focused on the software aspect rather than the hardware aspect. This makes this program different from others. This program is comparatively cheaper than other programs like BIT, BE, BSc. CS IT.
BCA course is slightly cheaper than that of BE, BIT, BE IT and BSc. CSIT.
3. Bachelor in Computer Engineering (BE)
Bachelor of Computer Engineering (BE) was primarily started back in 1994 by Kathmandu University. Later of Tribhuvan University, Purbanchal University, and Pokhara University also started the program. BE is four years program designed to provide knowledge and skill of computer hardware, software, designing, and physics.
Eligibility, Cost, and Scholarship
- Must have passed in first division from plus two science stream.
- 6-12 lakhs depending on the colleges
- Student can complete this course in less than 1 lakh if he/she passes the entrance exam in Pulchowk.
- Some college provides a student loan.

4. Bachelor in Information Management (BIM)
BIM program was started by Tribhuvan University. This is the blend of management and information technology. This program has been popular because both science and management students can apply for this program. Courses include programming, networking, marketing, computer application, etc.
This program is designed for those students who are interested in IT but has studies plus two in management or even science student who wants to make their career in IT management. Even the second division of marks in plus two results is enough to join the BIM program.
5. Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology (BSc. CSIT)
BSc. CSIT is a four years program from Tribhuvan University. More than 52 colleges from all over Nepal are offering this program. This is the perfect blend of computer science and information technology somehow the same as computer engineering. BSc. CSIT has been a popular program for students among other programs.

- 2 Lakh 25 Thousand in government colleges whereas as 3 – 10 lakhs in private colleges.
6. Bachelor of Engineering in Infomation Technology (BE IT)
There are no key differences between BE and BE IT, however, this program is more focused on software engineering. Courses include Operating system, Software designing, Network database, etc. Cost of this program almost the same as BE. This program is a unique blend of Information and Communication Technology. It prepares students to function effectively in this dynamic technological era.

7. Bachelor of Software Engineering
Bachelor of Software Engineering is 4-yrs, 133 credit undergraduate engineering program. This program is started by Pokhara University. Graduates of this program possess knowledge and skills of a defined engineering approach to complex systems analysis, planning, design, and construction. The program has a unique, project-driven curriculum, establishing a new model of communication, teamwork, critical thinking, and professionalism. Gandaki College of Engineering (Pokhara), NCIT College (Kathmandu) has been providing this program.
Eligibility
Students who have passed 10+2 in Science with a minimum of C grade in each subject, or Diploma in Engineering with a minimum of 45% marks, GCE A-Level, or equivalent degree will be eligible to apply. Applying. Candidates are selected through the entrance examination. The admission notice will be published by the college every year during July-August. Applying students are selected on a merit basis in the entrance examination conducted by the college.
