Early Life and Education
The capital city of Nepal Kathmandu is the place where Gagan Thapa was born on 16 July 1976. His family came from the one of the beautiful district Solukhumbu, Nepal. His father was an engineer. Gagan spent some of his childhood in Sindhupalchok district and he spent most of his childhood in Kathmandu.
Gagan Thapa started his schooling from Siddhartha Vanasthali School Balaju, Kathmandu. And he finished his schooling from the same school. After completing school level education, he moved to Amrit Science Campus for further studies. After sometimes, he left Amrit Science Campus and joined Tri-Chandra College.
He completed his plus two and Bachelor education from Tri-Chandra College Ghantaghar, Kathmandu in Science. Gagan joined MA in Rural Development in Tribhuwan University and dropped the course to join a Master in Political Science. From Tribhuwan University, he finished his Master in Political Science. He wanted to join Ph.D. in Political Economy but this had not been possible as he was actively participating in politics in Nepali Congress.
Political Career and Interests
In his childhood, Gagan Thapa wanted to become a national player of football. But now he is very popular among all Nepalese people as a young leader of Nepali politics. Gagan started politics from his schooling. He was in grade nine and his family is related to the Nepali Congress party. He introduces himself in Nepali politics by participating in the street against the monarchical system in 1990.
Gagan’s political career came out of his involvement with Nepal Students Union during his study at Tri-Chandra Campus. In 1998, he was elected as a president of Student Union for two years. And he also became a member of central Nepal Student Union committee member for 1098-2000 and vice president for 2000-2002. Then later in 2002, he became the general secretary of NSU (Nepal Student Union) till 2004.
Gagan was jailed numerous times for royal takeover on charges of sedition against the state, for his outspoken stance against King Gyanendra’s regime.
Thapa elected as a member of Nepalese Constitutional Assembly for three times in 2075. He became a member for the first Nepalese Constitutional Assembly in 2008 from Nepali Congress.
On August 2016, Thapa became the Minister of Health and Population in the government between the Nepali Congress and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre) led by Puspa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda).

Gagan Thapa married to the Dr. Anjana KC Thapa. She is the daughter of Arjun Narasingha KC, the active member of Nepali Congress. Gagan Thapa has two children named Gargi Thapa and Gia Thapa. Gagan Thapa seems happy with his wife and two daughters.
